Chengdu Baoguang Temple

Bao Guang TempleWith a history of more than 960 years, the temple is a rare example of wooden structure construction in the south area of the Yangtze River. it is one of the Four Zen Buddhist Monasteries in the Yangtze River Valley.

Baoguang Monastery is a complex of 'one tower, five halls and sixteen courts.'  Its layout is well-knit and momentum grand. The Arhat Hall built in the Qing Dynasty is supported about one hundred stone pillars and its structure is very intricate. The five hundred and sventy-seven statues of Buddha, Arhat and Buddhist founder have different expressions on their faces. All these statues are covered with gold foil, which is rare nationwide. Baoguang Monastery has many couplets with insightful meanings. The most well-known, one of the two most famous couplets of Chengdu.

Arranged along the central axis that extends northward are the Heavenly King Hall, the Main Hall, the Hall of Goddess of Mercy and the Sutra Attic, with the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower on the two wings and other buildings. It has the flavor of traditional Chinese architecture and shows a distinction between different structures. In front of the hall, there are springs and ponds, rippling all year round. Following the steps from the foot of the mountain, you can reach the Baoguo Temple.
