Tour Descriptions

Your guide will contact you or leave you a message in your hotel a day before departure to confirm the pick-up time.

7am-8:30am: meet your guide in the lobby at 7am, and takes 1 1/2 hours drive to Dujiangyan Panda Keeping Program Center, and arrive at 8:30am.

8:30am-9am: with your guide’s assistance to sign up in the panda center, get the working stuff as T-shirt, gloves and volunteer name tag. You will introduced to the professional panda keeper and they will tell you how and what to do next. The panda keeper can speak little English, so your guide will accompany you and translated for better understanding.

9am-10am: Clean the panda enclosure, panda are surly in outdoor, first to move out the leftover bamboo, put the fresh in, and then clean all the feces. Bamboo is the most important plant in a giant panda's life. They spend at least 12 hours each day eating bamboo but only soft part, wasted at most 70% of it.

10am-11am: take an hour rest for a while, wondering around the panda base and see how is it going for those ten pandas here, some of them born aboard, a “Popular Star” named Tai Shan, which come back from US in 2010, the guide will tell you some fun stories about them.

11am-11:30am: panda’s lunch time, At the Panda Keeping Center, pandas are offered bamboo, carrots, apples and special leaf eater biscuits made of grain and packed with all the vitamins and minerals pandas need. You will get close feeding them under the panda keeper’s instruction.

11:30am-1pm: off-work break time, have simple lunch at the panda base restaurant, it normally offer Chinese food with 2 meat dishes and 1 vegetable dish with cooked rice. You have option to walk around the base after lunch or take a nap in the volunteer office.

1pm-2pm: watch documentary of lovely panda, the 40 minutes movie illustrate how panda mate, give birth, glow up, training and return to wild nature.

2pm-3pm: afternoon cleaning and feeding, back to panda enclosure, move out the dry bamboo which left in the morning, replace the fresh one, supply with more carrot and apple for Vitamin needed.

3pm-3:30pm: this is at visitor’s request, get chance to make some panda cakes with your own hands. The ingredient are be prepared in advance mainly combing bamboo powder and other nutrition powder, use your imagination to make different shapes of cake.

3:30pm-4pm: finish your work today, get certificate of volunteer from Panda Base, your guide and driver will transfer you to your hotel in Chengdu.

Optional Program: you have opportunity to get up close to the panda and take photos only in Dujiangyan Base, but this not includes in the above itinerary. Visitors may book at least a week before get there, and require to pay CNY 1800 when you get there as donation fee for raising panda, they only accept cash so prepare enough cash with you is necessary.

• Confirmation letter will be received within 24 hours after making the payment.
• Your guide will contact you a day before your tour date and confirm the appointment hotel and pick up time.
• Meet your guide at the hotel lobby at appointment time.
• Gratuities to your guide and diver are recommended.
• We will take you to quality local shops, but absolutely no force shopping.

Hotel Pickup

Please fill up the booking form with your contact information, and the hotel pick up is necessary to fill and for us to make an arrangement before the tour. Pick up service is for customers staying in middle ring or inner ring of Shanghai hotels, if pick up from Pudong airports, Hongqiao Airports, or Wusongkou, Baoshan Cruises Terminals, the extra cost of transfers are apply.
